The Nautica® brand recently celebrated World Oceans Day, joining forces with ocean conservation organization Oceana and men's magazine GQ to showcase a commitment to water and the importance of marine ecosystems.

To celebrate the official United Nations holiday, the Nautica® brand hosted an all-day cleanup of the Hudson River in New York City. For the third consecutive year, the brand partnered with the Hudson River Park Trust to remove litter that had accumulated near a section of the river. More than 50 associates participated in the cleanup, filling dozens of trash bags. Their efforts prevented debris from washing out into the Atlantic Ocean, where it could endanger fish and birds.

The brand also marked the occasion with an exclusive World Oceans Day party in Los Angeles. Organized in partnership with GQ, the event featured a special musical performance by Jakob Dylan and was hosted by Oceana spokeswoman and actress January Jones. The event also honored Oceana's 2010 Ocean Heroes, a program sponsored by Nautica and GQ to recognize people who are making a difference for the oceans on a local or international level. This year marked the first that the Nautica® brand has celebrated World Oceans Day with events on both the East and West coasts.

"We are excited to continue building awareness with Oceana for World Oceans Day," said Karen Murray, President of Nautica.  "We are looking forward to encouraging and educating people to learn what they can do to help conserve and protect the ocean."
