John Varvatos recently presented his Fall/Winter 2010 Collection on the runway at Chiesa sconsacrata di San Paolo Converso in Milan, Italy.

The collection's colors are romantic and urban, with shades of gray, wine red, purple, steel blue and black. Suits, outerwear, knitwear and leather pieces are freely mixed in every outfit with total disregard for traditional rules. Fabrics, including cashmere, velvet and moleskin, are washed, soft and arranged in a constant mismatch of checks, glen plaids and new takes on conventional patterns, while leather offerings have a worn-in feel. Fabric flowers with zippered details are pinned on jacket lapels, and accessories such as washed wingtip boots and oversized totes add additional style.

"For this collection, I thought about the lifestyle of young men, not necessarily in age, but in spirit: people who live fast, travel intensively and want to look smart, but never uptight," Varvatos said. "My interpretation of their needs is a flexible wardrobe made of light pieces that have a soft, worn-in touch; clothing that is as subtly luxurious as it is easy to layer and adapt to one's own personality. A long knit coat might end up under a double-breasted suit jacket in the morning and on top of it at night, because that's how men really dress themselves today. Perfect and imperfect, day and night, elite and street are mixed into a new, single whole. The feel is urban, with romance underneath still burning bright."
